Whether you are familiar with the term 'fat bomb' or are new to this trend, think of them like energy balls, but instead of being made with things like oats or dried fruit, they're made almost exclusively from high-fat, low-carb ingredients. Fats take longer to break down in the digestive tract and slow the breakdown of carbohydrates into sugar, keeping our blood sugar levels stable and helping us to feel fuller for longer.
You can tailor these recipes to your specific lifestyle and macros. On board the keto train? Don't add protein or customize how much you include in the recipe. Use high-fat ingredients for the base such as butter, cream cheese, nut butters, or coconut oil/butter.
Dairy-free/vegan fat bomb bases include Coconut oil, Tree Nut cheese (like cashew cheese), Coconut cream or Cocoa butter.
There are many ways to incorporate a fat bomb into your routine; at the end of the day when you haven't quite met your macros yet or to help stave off binge eating with a portion sized sweet treat to satisfy your cravings.
Our favorite additions to include are unsweetened coconut, unsweetened chocolate, nuts and, cinnamon, and assorted berries. These can be savory or sweet, so do what works for you!
Pro Tip: Make a batch ahead of time and store so you have them on hand when needed. Be careful to watch portion sizes! It's very easy to over-indulge!
